The Fair

Years ago, the fair took place in the city centre. Magicians, street vendors, minstrels, circus and other attractions used to attend it.

The end of August and the beginning of September is a time for celebration, with the annual fair, an event which goes back to 1842, when local people used to meet to buy and sell livestock: in days gone by, it attracted its share of magicians, jugglers, market traders, circuses, and all sorts of attractions now long gone. Since 1993, the event has been held in the Niceto Alcalá-Zamora park on the edge of town, and it has become the main fair in the south of Córdoba province, attracting a large number of visitors from the local area and beyond. It always features a range of casetas, offering music, food and drink, and traditional fairground attractions to please children and their parents alike. There are a large number of stalls selling all kinds of goods, and top-class bullfights take place in the town’s century-old bullring.
