The Festivals in Priego de Córdoba are the third oldest in Spain, after those of Granada and Santander.
In 1948, a group of people, which live in Priego, organised some concerts similar to concerts celebrated in the gardens of the Alhambra in the Festival of Music in Granada. Mr. Álvaro Castilla Abril gave the garden up to people in order to celebrate this festival. The first concert was celebrated on the night of September, 1st 1948 and it was the origin of the current Music, Theatre and Dance International Festival.
The Festival was celebrated in the garden Recreo de Castilla until 1957. Nevertheless, in that moment the name of this place was Huerta de las Infantas.
Since then, many great orchestras, theatre and ballet groups, light opera and very famous artists have taken part in the Music, Theatre and Dance International Festival, named in this way at the moment.
Without a doubt, it is one of the most important cultural events in the region, which takes place in August, where you can enjoy a wide and varied programming. Each year this Festival is very renowned due to its amazing performances.
