On the night of February 2nd, the celebration of the Purification of Our Lady, Priego maintains the custom of lighting candelas – or bonfires -- a tradition kept alive and encouraged by the work of the various cofradías and groups which organise the event so well.

In the morning, the people of Priego make sure that they get some traditional roscas, a kind of bagel, which they take to church to be blessed. Then they either take them home, or to the candelaria to eat with local olive oil, crushed olives and salt cod, while they sing rincoros --  traditional songs which nowadays have almost died out.
