Trovos are spontaneous poems with a folk musical basis. However, trovos in Priego are not accompanied by music but just recited.

“Troveros” (people who recite trovos) must be resourcefulness because these poems are similar to dialogs. This traditional art is fresh and spontaneous, a lyrical battle between two people who have to show their knowledge about popular culture and their ability to enchain sentences in a poetical way.

Trovos in Priego, although recited in flamenco style, are not accompanied by music or dance. Their lyrics are called “coplillas” and they are usually five-line stanzas of eight syllables. Subjects are also improvised and troveros must answer alternatively and immediately.

If you want to check the ability of the troveros by yourself, you can attend the trovos festival celebrated every year during the last evening of the Royal Fair.
