A destination we all look after

Priego de Córdoba wants to remain, many years from now, the place that wins your heart today: a living historic centre, a well-kept landscape of olive groves and mountains, and locals who proudly welcome everyone who comes. That is why we see tourism as a way of visiting that respects the environment, supports the local economy and improves the lives of those who live here. Here is what we are doing and how you can join in.

Our commitment

The Priego de Córdoba Tourist Office is committed to the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. In August 2024 a Sustainability Committee was set up to define the objectives, drive an action plan and review its results every year. All of this is set out in our 2025 Sustainability Report (in Spanish), which you can read in full.

This commitment translates into our day-to-day work: reducing paper consumption and opting for digital information, separating waste correctly, giving priority to local suppliers and those with good environmental practices, and designing tourism experiences that respect the authenticity of our cultural and natural heritage.

A protected natural environment

Priego is one of the eight municipalities of the Sierras Subbéticas Natural Park, a Natura 2000 site that is also part of the Sierras Subbéticas UNESCO Global Geopark.

Since 2008, the park has been a member of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism (ECST), a quality label promoted by the EUROPARC Federation and based on the voluntary commitment of public authorities and businesses to a local sustainable tourism strategy.

The Tourism Sustainability Plan in Destination

Priego is implementing a Tourism Sustainability Plan in Destination (PSTD) with a budget of 2,826,984 euros, funded by the European Union through the NextGenerationEU funds. It was approved in 2023 with 19 projects, which are being carried out between 2024 and 2026 and are organised into four areas: green and sustainable transition, energy efficiency, digital transition and competitiveness.

Its main actions include:

Energy efficiency in our heritage

New energy-efficient lighting in the Carnicerías Reales, already completed, and new lighting across the museum network.

A more pedestrian-friendly historic centre

Pedestrianisation and improvement of Calle Obispo Caballero and Calle Isabel la Católica, together with new tree-shaded areas and awnings along the main tourist routes.

Nature inside and outside the town

Improvement of the green plots in the Buenavista neighbourhood and of the Green Corridor, and removal of the tree of heaven and other invasive species from the natural environment.

Olive oil culture

The old olive oil mill on the Paseo de Colombia, already acquired by the Town Council, will become the Museo Molino, a space to learn about the culture of extra virgin olive oil with the Priego de Córdoba PDO.

A more digital, better connected destination

Tourist information screens, new audio guides, a more digital Tourist Office and better connectivity in the villages.

Get around sustainably

Priego’s historic centre, with its narrow streets and hidden corners, is truly best enjoyed on foot. To make your visit more comfortable and reduce traffic in the centre:

Come by public transport

The bus station is on Calle Nuestra Señora de los Remedios. Check routes and timetables in getting here by bus.

Leave the car and walk

Park outside the historic centre and explore it on foot. To make this easier, the Town Council has acquired a first plot of land near the Bajo Adarve, where a large park-and-walk car park is planned. In a first phase it will host a motorhome area, and the project includes a footpath to the historic centre. See also getting around Priego.

Hop on the Chiquibus

The electric tourist bus tours the Historic-Artistic Site with no fumes or noise.

Share a car

Or, if you can, travel in an electric or low-emission vehicle.

Businesses committed to quality

Priego takes part in the SICTED programme, which in 2026 was renamed Sustainability, Intelligence and Tourism Quality in the Destination Ecosystem. In July 2026, 36 tourism services and businesses in the municipality received their distinction for the work carried out in 2025.

When choosing where to stay, look out for establishments displaying the “Compromiso de Calidad Turística” (Commitment to Tourism Quality) badge.

You count too: good practices for your visit

Stay more than one day

Priego, its villages and the Subbética deserve time, and a longer stay spreads the benefits of tourism more widely.

Come at any time of year

Spring and autumn are ideal for walking and enjoying nature, and in winter you can look forward to hearty mountain cuisine and cultural heritage. Check the weather in Priego.

Buy local

Try the extra virgin olive oil with the Priego de Córdoba PDO and local produce, and shop in the town’s businesses.

Look after water

Priego is a land of springs, and the one at the Fuente del Rey is one of its great treasures. Use water responsibly during your stay.

Respect nature

Stay on the waymarked trails, take your rubbish with you and respect the flora and fauna of the Natural Park.

Be a good neighbour

The Barrio de la Villa and the rest of the historic centre are lived-in neighbourhoods: respect residents’ rest and privacy.
